At Dr. Raul Ugarte’s urging, we began the Women’s Health Project in 2001. Due to a generous grant from the Washington Rotary Club and other donations, we were able to purchase test kits and the necessary instruments to begin cervical cancer screenings (i.e. a PAP smear, or, in Honduras–a Citologia) in our brigade clinics.
We are committed to providing the women not only with the results of these screenings and medicines to treat infections; but more importantly, further treatment for cancerous or non-cancerous lesions — all funded by WOM.
We are also dedicated to better educating women regarding their bodies, encouraging them to ask questions and making sure their concerns are addressed. This program is truly all about the women of Honduras!
