container-2WOM annually sends four to eight 40-foot containers of humanitarian aid to be used and distributed in Honduras. Containers are packed with medicine and other various donations.  At times specifically focused collections are made in when group members are aware of needs in Honduras.   Examples are below:

Flood relief – The area near Pimienta Honduras is frequently flooded by heavy rains which cause the River Ulua to overflow. Through the years we have sent two boats and motors to be used to transport aid to stranded Hondurans as well as food, clothing, and tarps and tents for short-term housing.

Medicine and medical supplies – At least four shipments annually contain medicine and medical supplies. When no other resources are available Hondurans travel on buses to Pimienta where through Dr. Raul Ugarte medicine is given without cost to those in need. We have also been able to outfit a dental office in Pimienta and send dental chairs and supplies to the Dental School in San Pedro Sula.  Medical equipment not used in Pimienta is given to hospitals and clinics throughout the area of Honduras.  Wheelchairs and PETS (www.petproject.com) sent in containers have been distributed to grateful recipients throughout the country.

container-4School Supplies – The school year in Honduras begins in February and children cannot attend if they do not have the required uniform, shoes and materials.  We send a shipment in the late summer or early fall filled with items to help children go to school. (See School Supplies Drive under EVENTS.)

General shipments – School Desks, clothing, shoes, household items, toys, and personal hygiene items are always in short supply in developing countries. Through our containers we can share the wealth of the citizens of the United States with people who would otherwise have no means of obtaining these basic items.
